Christian Leadership Goal #1

Because I desire to equip others and emphasize humility with sacrificial service, I will learn the basics of

running a church women’s ministry.

Strategy

  • Meet with the outgoing women’s ministry director at Central Bible Church

  • Meet with two other ministry directors from other churches

Resources

Conversations with Dr. Edwards

Review books in my library and others recommended by Dr. Edwards:

  • Shepherding a Woman’s Heart

  • Women Mentoring Women

  • Organic Ministry to Women

  • Leading Women Who Wound

Possibly the ministry director from my mother’s church (Christ Chapel in Fort Worth) and Angela Cirocco, the director at Northwest Bible Church

Measurements

  • Meet with at least 1 ministry director by December and the other 2 by May

  • List of important notes learned from my readings by May

Artifacts

Notes on Women's Event Planning

For my Christian leadership goal, I have submitted notes regarding my leadership of two main events for the Women's Ministry at my church. These notes demonstrate my interest in developing the gifts of women at my church and my ability to lead and work with a team.

Lessons I've Learned

For my Christian leadership goal, I have also submitted notes regarding my meetings with different Women's Ministry directors in the Metroplex. These notes demonstrate my knowledge of lessons learned from these gifted leaders.

Christian Leadership Goal #2

Because I desire to equip others and emphasize humility with sacrificial service, I will invite a woman to join me in writing a Bible study for our church.

Strategy

  • Meet with the potential writers to discuss the opportunity. After prayerful consideration, I will ask one to join me in writing a study. (I’ve already been approached by one woman who is interested in this.)

  • Meet regularly to study, talk and write.

Resources

Class materials from Curriculum Design class

Review books in my library and others recommended by Dr. Edwards:

  • Creative Teaching Methods

  • Creative Bible Teaching

And more…

Measurements

  • Initial meetings with an interested partner by December

  • Monthly meetings and outline of study by May

Artifacts

  • Notes from meetings with partner

  • Rough draft of Bible study outline and any other material that we have written

For my Christian leadership goal, I have submitted a narrative regarding the plans for a Bible study on 1 and 2 Peter. This narrative demonstrates my interest in collaborating with other believers on meaningful projects.

Narrative about Bible study collaboration

Learning Reflection

As I developed and demonstrated Christian Leadership abilities, I learned the value of a team. I have always enjoyed gathering people, and I realize this is a leadership ability. As the leader, I do not need to have the right answers or all the ideas. I just need to provide the right encouragement and environment for others to share these ideas. If a woman realizes I am on her side and want to see her succeed, she feels free to use her gifts. I thoroughly enjoyed our planning brunch. I would present a question to the group, and then take notes as they one-by-one shared some really great ideas.

However, a consistent, underlying battle I face is the enemy's lie that I am not qualified to lead. Somehow he can convince me that I do not have enough life experience, personality, or wisdom to lead well. I realize I do not have a dynamic and outgoing personality. However, I believe women know that I am trustworthy and dependable. I listen well, keep confidences, and encourage their success. Maybe these qualities can make a great leader!

Lifelong Learning Commitment

As a result of the experiences documented by these artifacts, I will continue to develop in my Christian Leadership by saying "Yes" to opportunities at my church to lead. The position at my church to lead our Women's Ministry is in a time of change. Although the job does not look like I initially expected it to, I sense God's direction in accepting the position. I have met several Women's Ministry Directors from churches around the Metroplex. I will need to continue meeting others as I learn how to lead the ministry at my church. I have never led a ministry, so I must humbly seek the wisdom of those who have already done this. Since I enjoy coffee and lunch with friends, this will be a great way to meet other women in ministry and learn from them.
